The Philadelphia Eagles are in for a busy offseason. They are already making their name in headlines for free agents and trade targets. Arguably, the cream of the crop is Myles Garrett. The Cleveland Browns star pass rusher won’t seek an extension and will look for a trade. With the news of his impending departure official, the Birds have emerged as a top suitor. Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman has always been known to be aggressive in the offseason. Garrett is also the kind of star that is right in Roseman’s wheelhouse. The Eagles pride themselves on building through the trenches and Garrett fits that role perfectly. The question is, how much is Roseman willing to give up?
Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman Could Trade For Myles Garrett
According to multiple outlets like Sports Illustrated, Garrett is a prime target on the Eagles general manager’s radar and could look to make a “big swing” for the edge rusher this offseason. In order to achieve this, some believe that Roseman could look to part with multiple key players from their Super Bowl-winning roster.
This could mean letting several key free agents walk. At the top of that list is Josh Sweat. If they bring in Garrett, bringing back Sweat would be a bit redundant. They could use the money they would have paid Sweat for a Garrett extension and possibly for other position groups. Milton Williams and Mekhi Becton also need to be considered because they are also more role players who could be replaced in the draft.
Of course, it will take more than an edge rusher to land one of the league’s most dangerous players. It would most likely cost the team their first-round pick, which would make sense if they’re getting Garrett. What starters could that involve though? They need to be careful not to weaken their foundation for one premium player.
Garrett Over The Years
The former first-overall pick has been sensational since entering the league. Last season, Garrett recorded 40 solo tackles, 14 sacks, and three forced fumbles. He is also a six-time Pro Bowler with four All-Pro nods. He took home the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2023, putting up similar numbers. The edge rusher also hasn’t had less than 10 sacks in a season since his rookie campaign in 2017.
If he is available for an affordable price, the Eagles should pounce at the opportunity to land Garrett. He is a top 10 defensive player in the league and is just 29 years old. If the team is looking to remain competitive after just winning a Super Bowl, the team could wreck teams quarterbacks for years with a line including Garrett and Jalen Carter.
