In case you haven’t noticed — once in awhile the New York Giants give us a gift. I mean — who wouldn’t want to alienate a once-in-a-lifetime running back talent in Saquon Barkley by placing a franchise-tag on him and allowing him to sign a contract with the Eagles down I-95 — a marriage that brought both he and Philadelphia a Super Bowl Championship.

As expected — on Thursday night — Penn State super-star defensive end Abdul Carter was taken #3 overall by the New York Giants. It may have been painful for one of the best collegiate talents from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and even all of the country go to a Division Rival. And Abdul Carter may strive to be an Eagle killer — or at least will say that to the New York media — but the LaSalle College High School Star will always have his heart in the city where his career football star rose. In fact — he is one of a pretty healthy list of Philadelphia football players making our talent pool known across the country.
After one of the best football seasons ever — the Nittany Lions had plenty of Philly football depth this season, highlighted by PSU Edge Rusher Abdul Carter from LaSalle College High School. The Nittany Lions also have Junior Offensive Tackle Drew Shelton from Downingtown West, Tyseer Denmark and Kenny Woseley, Jr., and Keon Wylie from Imhotep, Mylachi Williams from Bonner-Prendergast, Winston Yates from Paul VI, Ian Harvie from Spring-Ford, Liam Horan from Malvern Prep, Sam Siafa from Downingtown West, Bobby Mears from Malvern Prep, and Jake Spencer from The Haverford School and Ian Harvie from Spring-Ford.

So this weekend — as the excitement of the NFL Draft culminates with the conclusion of the seventh round and Carter is lauded as a generational player from right here in Philly — do not be troubled. Things aren’t go so well thus far. Carter wasn’t able to get permission to use Phil Simms’ retired #11 or Lawrence Taylor’s #56. Many good Pennsylvania things come back to the Eagles.
Just ask Saquon Barkley.
