Cre’Von LeBlanc won’t be back with the Eagles

Strapless.

Cre’Von LeBlanc won’t be re-signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. Instead, the free agent cornerback is taking his talents to South Beach to play for the Miami Dolphins.

LeBlanc’s departure hardly comes as a shock. We forecasted this outcome all the way back in February:

Strap’s going to be a free agent this offseason. He might not feel indebted to a team that cut him last year and brought in a new coaching staff. The Eagles might not feel indebted to a player who struggled last season and played in only 13 out of his last 32 possible games. I wouldn’t mind the Eagles re-signing Strap for the minimum and letting him compete for a roster spot but I’m guessing he might look to go elsewhere.

It’s a shame to see Strap won’t be back from the perspective that he was a fun underdog to root for. He came out of nowhere to give the Eagles some nice production after they claimed him off waivers during the 2018 season. Remember when he picked off Drew Brees on the first play of scrimmage during the Eagles’ divisional round playoff game against the Saints? That was fun.

It’s too bad he couldn’t stay healthy and become a long-term fixture for the Eagles. Or, heck, even more of a short-term one given their barren cornerback position.

Strap turns 27 in a couple days so there’s still some hope for him to get his NFL career back on track. Best wishes to him in that regard. Sort of. Would be cool to see him do well but need the Dolphins to lose a lot this year so Philly gets their 2022 first-round pick at a high spot.

Here’s the take on Strap over at The Phinsider:

But one thing is for certain, with or without Howard, the Dolphins can never have too many corners. And for a guy like LeBlanc, who has experience starting in the league, maybe he is the type of guy that can give Miami some added reassurance. But based on everything I’ve seen from watching the Eagles defense over the years, is that NO ONE should expect Cre’von LeBlanc to vill the void left behind by Xavien Howard.

UPDATE: LeBlanc posted a farewell message on Instagram.
