Breaking: Panthers Predicted to Trade Former First-Round Pick

September 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After a rough first two weeks of the 2025 regular season, the Carolina Panthers could trade former first-round pick wide receiver Xavier Legette. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the Panthers may trade the wideout as he’s struggling to make any type of impact this season. The assumption was that after trading veteran Adam Thielen, the Panthers would be able to thrive in the passing game with at least Legette and Jalen Coker in the aerial attack. However, Coker is on IR, and Legette hasn’t been living up to the hype, while he did show some flashing potential near the end of last year’s season.

The expectation was that he was going to build on that, but it’s looking to be a disappointment for this Carolina offense, which might go 0-3 again for a third consecutive year. Originally selected in the 2024 NFL Draft, the former South Carolina product was given a fresh start this season, since typically in rookie years, many athletes go through “growing pains.” The Panthers were hoping this was the case, but with an emerging top receiver option like Tetairoa McMillan, recording 168 receiving yards already, it puts Legette in the backseat. The good news is that head coach Dave Canales still has faith in Legette and believes that it’s just a matter of opportunities.

Despite that, it shouldn’t be surprising if the Panthers make him available for a trade, especially if they’re in a rebuild year and these three teams could target him.

Possible Fits

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently frustrated with their wide receiver room, and rightfully so. After going 0-2, the team has every right to feel this way, but they must do something to improve their passing offense. Between Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton, they haven’t done enough to reel in a win over the Eagles in Week 2. While they will get Xavier Worthy sooner rather than later, thankfully for the Chiefs fans, they still have to navigate life without Rashee Rice for more games.

Legette won’t drastically change the offensive attack for Patrick Mahomes, but with how Thornton can show flashes and show potential as a true starting threat, then they can do the same with the former first-round pick. It won’t be the quickest solution, but it should give this offense some potential confidence.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars need more weapons in the aerial attack if they want Trevor Lawrence to improve his play. While Lawrence and head coach Liam Coen have had their own issues, one thing could lead to another. Brian Thomas Jr. is coming off his worst game against Cincinnati, and while they have Dyami Brown and rookie Travis Hunter, they should trade for Legette to give them a long-term receiver to develop.

They already got Tim Patrick in a trade, so why not do that for a Legette who may last longer?

Philadelphia Eagles

However, the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the best wide receiver lineups between AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson and John Metchie. So why shouldn’t they continue to build for the future? Dotson is in the final year of his contract with the Eagles, and Legette could be a viable replacement.
