Breaking: Panthers Cut 4,300-Yard Pro Bowler – Will Anyone Take a Chance On Him?

March 12, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

panthers cut miles sanders

After just two seasons with the team, the Carolina Panthers will cut veteran running back Miles Sanders who now becomes a free agent. According to the breaking news, the team is moving on from the long-time veteran which clears over $5 million in salary cap. Originally selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Penn State product began his career with the Philadelphia Eagles helping them reach a Super Bowl in 2022 but left hoping for a bigger role. Sanders was on top of the depth chart for the Panthers the following season but with the emergence of Chuba Hubbard, he was slowly depleting.

After Hubbard set high records last campaign, the team gave him a contract extension which prevents him from hitting free agency this offseason. Even though Jonathan Brooks is out with a torn ACL and will likely miss the entire 2025 season, the Panthers are sticking with both running backs and probably will draft a new one for depth. Sanders’ tenure did not go as planned for the past two seasons but with a new scenery, he should be able to carve out a new role. The veteran wanted a starting role but will have to settle for a backup role until he can earn that position with these five teams

Next Possible Fits

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have finally found a new running back in Javonte Williams which makes Rico Dowdle expendable. This doesn’t mean the team should add another to bolster the unit and Sanders could fit well into the mold with his experience. He won’t start but with a different scenery, Sanders could help the next running back they probably might take in this year’s draft.

Kansas City Chiefs

As for the Chiefs, they’ve done some housekeeping for their running back unit as well. After signing Elijah Mitchell, it’s never a bad idea to keep adding more talent considering Mitchell is on a one-year deal. Sanders could win the backup role and reduce the snaps for Isiah Pacheco after a slow 2024 campaign.

Philadelphia Eagles

A reunion for the Philadelphia Eagles after winning the Super Bowl with running back Saquon Barkley’s first year with the team is possible. Will Shipley did have some impressive moments and bursts of speed but in order for them to maximize his potential, they should sign Sanders. The veteran won’t take Barkley’s spot after a massive extension this offseason but he could be a key contributor in a situational role.

Los Angeles Chargers

It’s a bit surprising the Chargers have yet to discuss contract negotiations with J.K. Dobbins. However, the team did move on from journeyman veteran Gus Edwards after an underwhelming 2024 campaign. The team loves to win football games in the trenches so it’s no surprise it wasn’t long until Los Angeles signed Najee Harris. The team could use a veteran like Sanders even on a temporary contract like how Harris had a one-year deal.

Baltimore Ravens

As for the Ravens, the team is bringing back fullback Patrick Richard but Keaton Mitchell has yet to make noise even though he returned next year. However, even though Justice Hill is a speedster, they could use another running back to move the chains. Sanders could be in that role to keep Derrick Henry fresh for the postseason consistently.
