Breaking: Eagles Likely to Trade Super Bowl Champion After Latest Comments

April 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

dallas goedert trade comments

The Philadelphia Eagles will likely trade Super Bowl champion Dallas Goedert after the latest comments. According to a report, head coach Nick Sirianni got the chance to comment on Goedert’s future, and it does not sound good. Despite being a capable pass-catcher last season, the Eagles might not have enough cap space to sign him on another deal. Sirianni said, “Right now, he’s on our football team,” and that doesn’t mean he will remain on the roster any longer as the Eagles could look to trade the tight end in this year’s NFL Draft.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former South Dakota State product became one of the most dependable tight ends in the league. After becoming a backup to Zach Ertz, Goedert eventually won the starting role and began putting up worthy numbers to help the Eagles push for a Super Bowl. They finally won, but since giving quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley monster contracts, the team won’t have enough cap space to extend Goedert. Unless he’s willing to take a pay cut, the Eagles will trade him to a new team to start fresh.

This might be the route the Eagles take and these three teams will likely pursue him to give him a shot on the roster.

Possible Next Teams

Los Angeles Chargers

Despite signing Tyler Conklin to salvage the passing offense, the Los Angeles Chargers could sign another pass catcher. With that, this may be the end of Will Dissly since they haven’t been getting anything special out of him for the majority of last season. Conklin is on for a one-year deal, and since he was a depth fill, Goedert could be a long-term investment the Chargers should take to improve the pass game for quarterback Justin Herbert. As of this posting, 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is still the best set of reliable hands on this offense, and strangely, the Chargers have not signed a consistent playmaker in this free agency.

While they were eyeing DK Metcalf in a trade this offseason, the Chargers couldn’t deliver a better deal. Mike Williams is returning, but he’s washed up and not in his prime anymore. The Chargers must do something to spark the passing game if they want to beat out other contenders in the AFC. If it’s not a receiver, it could be a new tight end like Goedert.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, there’s still a chance the Baltimore Ravens could trade Mark Andrews. While they want him to come back, it might be better for both sides to move on, as Andrews isn’t likely to earn his job back. Isaiah Likely is too powerful for Andrews to win it back, but they could trade for Goedert to build a tandem in Baltimore.

New Orleans Saints

Even though tight end Juwan Johnson is back on a new extension, the Saints could use another pass catcher. Goedert might not be a wide receiver, but he’s capable enough to help the team win ball games. The veteran is a significant upgrade over Foster Moreau.
