In less than two weeks, the Eagles went from an almost guaranteed 8-2 to wrap up the NFC East by the start of December and a top seed in the playoffs.
And now, they’re a few hours away from cheering on a Detroit Lions team missing multiple key players in the secondary, including Kerby Joseph and Terrion Arnold, to beat the explosive offense of the Dallas Cowboys.
Who went from 4 games back of 1st in the NFC East to now only 1.5 games back, with a schedule that gets easier week by week?
Remaining Matchups
With only five weeks left in the regular season, every win is about to matter more than it would have in September.
With a 1.5 game lead, the 8-4 Eagles will have the following matchups to finish their season:
- @ LA Chargers
- vs Las Vegas Raiders
- @ Washington Commanders
- @ Buffalo Bills
- vs Washington Commanders
With only two games left against potential playoff opponents, we’ll get a look at the end of the year to see if the Eagles’ offense will truly struggle against even the worst of opponents or if things are actually as bad as they seem.
Since returning from the Bye Week, the Eagles have averaged 15.5 points in four games. Will the defense be able to hold teams to fewer than 2 scores over the next 2 months?
There are also quarterbacks, Justin Herbert and Jayden Daniels, who are questionable to see playing time this week. A benefit to the end of the Eagles’ schedule is that they can see backup QBs for multiple games to end the year.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys have been operating like a different team since the trade deadline. With an average of 29.3 points a game since Week 10, it’s been the defense that has been able to turn things around. They have only given up an average of 21.6 points in their previous 3 games. It’s more than possible that the Cowboys can make another push to eclipse the Eagles for the division title late in the year.
Dallas Remaining Games
- @ Detroit Lions
- vs Minnesota Vikings
- vs LA Chargers
- @ Washington Commanders
- @ New York Giants
In a similar situation to the Eagles, with only two potential playoff opponents. The Cowboys would realistically need to win out. Barring a complete collapse from the Eagles, it gives them an open road to the playoffs.
Not entirely impossible, as the Cowboys are slated to play the same teams with injured quarterbacks. Or, in the Vikings’ case, some of the worst QB performances of all time.
Can the Eagles keep a lead for the division down the stretch?
