For Eagles Defensive End Jalyx Hunt —Whose NFL Career Is Just Beginning — Paying Homage To Another Great Eagle Is Just Part of the Journey.
It was back in October of 1888 when members of The United Bowmen of Philadelphia — being the oldest Bowmen Club in the country — voted to allow the Historical Society of Philadelphia to take all of the organization’s trophies and documents dating back to 1828. The Club wouldn’t be placed back into existence again until the Great Depression in 1932–forty-four years later.

Midway through the second quarter of Super Bowl LIX this past February when Eagles rookie linebacker Jalyx Hunt — part of an Eagles defense that was nothing less than dominant throughout that contest— saw pressure collapse around Patrick Mahomes who then stepped forward and was subsequently sacked by Hunt. Jalyx Hunt — wearing #58 jersey number jumped up and made the iconic bow and arrow pose that Cole made famous while playing in Philadelphia between 2005–2014. The gesture would earn him a $5,690.00 fine by the NFL.
Jalyx Hunt’s rookie campaign was in spectacular fashion. It started that way as well. Hunt would be the 1st player in the history of the NFL to be drafted from Houston Christian when he was selected with the 94th pick overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Eagles. During the Championship season — he would appear in sixteen games — getting his first sack against the Giants and Drew Lock.
Four years ago — a video surfaced online of Trent Cole in an iconic pose. The was not on a football field, however. This was in the woods utilizing a real bow and arrow on a deer hunt. The pose of Cole with the bow and arrow was reminiscent of an on — field celebration that he utilized in an NFL career that lasted just over a decade.
Since the resurgence of the Eagles back in 2000 under then Coach Andy Reid — many great Philadelphia players deserved to feel the recognition of a Super Bowl Championship. Trent Cole was one of them. Like Jalyx Hunt — Cole was drafted by the Eagles on a roster that had recently played in a Super Bowl. And much like 2025 — the Eagles lost that Super Bowl to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in 2005 right before drafting Trent Cole. Two years before drafting Hunt — the Eagles lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023.
Trent Cole would never end up winning a Super Bowl in the NFL. What he would do was to showcase one of the finest careers in Eagles history as a defensive end. Before retiring as an Eagle in 2017 — Cole amassed over 90 sacks, 467 solo tackles, 21 forced fumbles, and one interception in the NFL. His signature move — the bow and arrow celebration after a sack and huge play.
The $5,690.00 fine from the NFL doesn’t diminish Hunt’s tribute during the Super Bowl to honor Trent Cole. He has a career to aspire to— an incredible defensive run as an Eagle. The longevity may be yet to come but he’s already got the Super Bowl Championship that Trent Cole did not win during his time in Philly. Until then — fans can look for Hunt to continue to honor Cole’s legacy as an Eagle by celebrating sacks with homage to a bow and arrow pose that likens itself to the oldest Bowman Club in this great nation.
One that started right here in Philadelphia.
