Patience please, President Trump. Over the last decade — perhaps no organization has dedicated themselves in both selecting, cultivating, and developing great quarterback talent like Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are in-fact known for developing great quarterback talent — coveted by other NFL teams. This offseason — the Eagles traded backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns. Pickett’s rejuvenation after once being perceived to be the future of the Pittsburgh Steelers — was largely thanks to the Eagles quarterback carousel (welcome, Kyle McCord.)
More importantly for the Eagles — having a talent like former Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee on the roster — made the move possible. Now Kenny Pickett will have plenty of competition.
The amazing part is that the Eagles have done it with only one top 10 draft quarterback selection in Carson Wentz. They traded Sam Bradford, Carson Wentz, Pickett, and Nick Foles. They released Michael Vick and Marcus Mariota. And still — the Eagles have two Lombardi Trophies to show for it — nearly three.
This weekend — as many thought that former University of Colorado and Jackson State University quarterback Shedeur Sanders was destined for a first round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft — round after round went by without him being drafted. Finally —the wait was over when Sanders was picked in the 5th round by the Cleveland Browns who also drafted former Oregon quarterback Gabriel Dillon with the 94th selection a day earlier.
When you get selected into the NFL — it’s not about where you get drafted by about being drafted at all. The irony of the situation is that now Shedeur Sanders is in a QB room with other NFL quarterbacks Joe Flacco, DeShaun Watson, Kenny Pickett, and now Gabriel. Given all of that — Sanders still has the potential to be the Browns franchise quarterback moving forward.
The Browns selected Sanders with that 144th selection —only one pick before the Eagles selection. Was Shadeur Sanders on the Eagles’ Draft Board? We may never know for sure.

And in developing quarterback talent? The Eagles already have a quarterback that you may have heard of in Jalen Hurts.
And he’s pretty good, himself.
