It was late October of 1931 — Philadelphia’s first football franchise made it’s last victorious outing — ever. The Frankford Yellow Jackets — once the class of the NFL and it’s World Champions in 1926 — had been decimated by fires at their home stadium in Northeast Philadelphia as well as an economic impact with the Great Depression. At Wrigley Field — Frankford would win their last ever game. Some eight hundred miles from Philly and in front of twenty-six thousand fans would see the culmination of the Yellow Jackets being victorious on a football field.

Since 1933 — many of the Eagles and Bears games have been epic. Buddy’s Fog Bowl Flop in 1988, Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid’s playoff win to close the old Soldier Field in 2002, Dick Vermeil’s Eagles win 1979 in the NFC Wildcard Playoffs, or the Cody Parkey’s (a former Eagle) double-doink heard around the world to send the Eagles to the Divisional Round of the Playoffs in 2018.

Aside from a 1933 tie game in Chicago — the Eagles wouldn’t win a game in the windy city until 1999. The Eagles have played a Friday Game twice in recent times — an opening Day in Brazil in 2024 and in 1960. In both of those seasons — they would end as World Champions.
That elated day in Chicago in 1931 after the 13–12 victory would be the last time that the Frankford Yellow Jackets would ever win a football game and would finish the season 1–6–1.
In 2025 — we’ll have the opportunity not only for a Friday game but also to see the Bears again. This rare Friday matchup will be competing with a weekend full over college football. But unlike 1933 when Penn Football was the rage around Philadelphia — this year everyone will be watching the Eagles after Thanksgiving Day, Friday Holiday deals, and an extra helping of Turkey-Day NFL action.
Is it the game that I am most anticipating in 2025? It’s not even close.
