43-Sack Impending Free Agent Hires New Agent – Could Leave for Chargers, Commanders After Super Bowl

josh sweat hires agent

43-sack impending free agent Josh Sweat hires a new agent ahead of the Super Bowl matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. According to several reports, there’s reason to believe that Sweat could be leaving the Eagles since hiring Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. This could be worrisome for many Eagle fans, but Sweat said it’s the “biggest moment of his life.” It seems odd that he would say this on Super Bowl week, which could indicate he’ll be open to leaving for a new team if it means earning a better deal elsewhere.

Originally selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product is looking for a major pay bump after playing on a one-year contract. Sweat was the subject of trade rumors this season and there’s no denying his pass-rushing abilities. The former Pro Bowler became one of the main disruptors for the Eagles, which is something that Philadelphia to lose after recording 27 solo tackles, eight sacks and a pair of broken-up passes while notching a 71.0 defensive grade. After saying “It is what it is,” it shouldn’t be too long for the Eagles fan-favorite to find a new team and sign a long-term deal with them.

Sweat is not looking for a contender but someone who’s going to give him big money. Rosenhaus and his partners have helped other 1,100 contracts earn more than $8 billion, which means he’s not looking for the right fit but the money will intrigue him. Two teams have the bag are the Chargers, Commanders might give what Sweat is looking for.

Rebuilding Harbaugh’s Trenches

The Los Angeles Chargers surprised a lot of people this past 2024 campaign after building a new regime under head coach Jim Harbaugh. However, all of that came to an end when the Chargers couldn’t find a way to support quarterback Justin Herbert with capable receivers leading to the wild card round loss against the Texans. As much as Harbaugh didn’t help Herbert, he has to use the same energy for the defense. The team had one of the most improved defensive trenches under Harbaugh’s helm but has several impending free agents like Poona Ford to re-sign.

Edge rusher Khalil Mack doesn’t have many years in him, but chances are, he will probably sign with a new roster. Meanwhile, Joey Bosa is a probable cut candidate so that means the Chargers should be in the market for a new pass-rusher. The good news for the team is they have the money to facilitate a Sweat signing. As long as the Chargers can re-sign Ford and most of their defensive free agents, they should be in good hands with Sweat’s presence.

More Star Power in Washington

Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders have all the star power when it comes to their offense. Quarterback Jayden Daniels is making life easier for targets such as Terry McLaurin but has several free agents to re-sign. They should anticipate bringing back most of them but the Commanders have done well for themselves by bringing some of the best pass rushers Dante Fowler Jr. and Dorance Armstrong to build a stalwart in Washington.

There’s no word on Bobby Wagner’s future but the team could probably be considering signing him back for a few more years since he’s aging. However, with $63 million in cap space for the 2025 year, the Commanders have the financial resources to pull both Sweat and Wagner.
