King Henry VIII must have been working in yesterday’s game between Marquette and Villanova because there was an official who didn’t seem to be willing to call a foul on anything short of a decapitation.
In the second half of yesterday’s Big East Quarterfinal game, Golden Eagles guard Stevie Mitchell tried to make a move inside only to find Wildcats guard TJ Bamba in his way. Mitchell tried to get through but Bamba pressed forward and nearly knocked Mitchell’s block off.
Mitchell’s head jerked backwards from the impact and he fell onto the hardwood.
The call from the official? There was none. There certainly wasn’t one against Bamba.

Most college basketball fans were floored while the Marquette fans were downright furious on social media after seeing this play:
“Theo John would have been assessed a flagrent foul, kicked out of the game and arrested for that play,” one fan declared.
“Starting a GoFundMe for Big East refs to get glasses because what the hell is this,” Barstool Marquette wrote.
“Brian O’Connell at his best. This is pathetic. Could easily be a F1 and these clowns won’t even call it a common foul,” a third wrote.
Fortunately for the Golden Eagles, they were able to win the game in overtime even with Mitchell nearly losing his head. They will now face Providence in the Big East Semifinal tonight.
Hopefully they have a different official working the court for the game.
