Five-star small forward Cam Whitmore is heading to the Big East.
Whitmore is a 6-foot-6 small forward out of Maryland. He checks in as the No. 24 overall and No. 6 small forward in the 2022 cycle, per the 247Sports composite score.
Whitmore received plenty of impressive offers, including from the likes of North Carolina and Illinois. But a program out of the Big East proved to be the top dog in the fight.
The five star announced on Thursday he’s heading to Villanova to join Jay Wright and the Wildcats.
“It speaks for itself,” Whitmore told 247Sports regarding Villanova. . “They win National Championships, so they have history. Coach just got inducted into the Hall of Fame and that’s all you have to say about that. So you have a great coach and a great program and what stood out was me being in that practice and seeing how they were together, linking arms when coach was talking and very disciplined. That really stood the discipline on and off the court. They are competitive and treat you like family.”
Cam Whitmore will fit in well in the Big East. He’s a tough-nosed competitor unafraid of getting his hands dirty. Jay Wright should find a prominent role for the small forward in coming years.
Whitmore is also extremely versatile and can excel on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court.
Remember the name, folks. Whitmore may end up being a future star for Villanova basketball.
