Over his years as a college football analyst, Kirk Herbstreit has visited dozens of college campuses and experienced the best atmospheres that the sport has to offer. But only one could take the top spot as the best in the game.
On Thursday, Herbstreit unveiled his “Herbie Award” for the best stadium atmosphere. Winning the “prestigious” award from the ESPN analyst was Penn State at Beaver Stadium in University Park.
ESPN College Football offered some evidence to back up Herbstreit’s award in the form of a video. The 35-second clip shows just how incredible the atmosphere can be – especially during The White Out in Happy Valley.
Kirk Herbstreit has been to Beaver Stadium plenty of times, so he would know just how intense the atmosphere can get. Naturally, there’s some resistance to his pick though.

Fans of Nebraska, Texas A&M, Auburn, Ohio State, Tennessee, LSU and many others have made their respective cases in the comments section.
Kirk Herbstreit and ESPN will have several opportunities to visit Beaver Stadium again this coming year. The Nittany Lions have a massive non-conference game against Auburn on September 18 – which ABC will have the call for.
They also have a few Big Ten matchups against Indiana and Michigan which could play an impact in the conference title race.
Do you agree with Kirk Herbstreit here? Does Penn State have the best atmosphere in college football?
