The Sixers have made a solid trade and a head-scratching salary dump so far. What else do you want to see them do before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline?
The Sixers have already been active ahead of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
They completed a trade Tuesday afternoon, sending Caleb Martin to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for guard Quentin Grimes and a 2025 second-round pick which was originally owned by Philly. In Grimes, the Sixers get a 3-and-D guard who’s still just 24 years old. Plus, they go from having no picks in the 2025 NBA Draft to at least possessing what could potentially be a decent second-rounder.
The other deal that’s reportedly agreed to is a bit of a head scratcher. The team is trading KJ Martin — along with two second-round picks — to the Detroit Pistons in a pure salary dump. While the Sixers are touting the extra flexibility, it’s hard to see how this benefits the basketball team moving forward. Martin’s balloon deal was supposed to net the team a rotation player. Instead, it’s costing them draft picks to dump his inflated salary.
Of course, the Sixers aren’t done yet. They have until Thursday’s 3 p.m. deadline to continue to make moves. Could they add another player to their rotation for a playoff push? Will they look to shed more veterans like Eric Gordon and Andre Drummond?

Also, after the trade deadline passes, Bryan Toporek and myself will be hosting separate Q&A sessions to answer any of the lingering questions you might have about the Sixers’ moves.
