Maxey joins Joel Embiid as being listed as questionable. Embiid of course had an injury scare late in the second quarter of Game 1. He was able to return for the second half of what was ultimately a 111-104 loss at Madison Square Garden Saturday.
This sort of feels on brand for the Sixers this season, unfortunately. In addition to Embiid missing so much time after undergoing surgery on his left meniscus, the team saw several players go in and out of the lineup with various injuries and illnesses. Maxey himself had a concussion and a hip issue keep him out of several games down the stretch.
It goes without saying that Game 2 is of critical importance if the Sixers have any hope of winning this series. They’re already down 1-0. Going down 2-0 is a historically bad thing. As of now the Sixers are six-point underdogs, according to our friends at DraftKings.
Maxey and Embiid were the only reasons the Sixers were in Game 1 at all. The team’s supporting cast struggled mightily on offense. Meanwhile, the Knicks got a huge contribution from Deuce McBride. The reserve guard is quickly becoming a notable Sixers killer as he put up 21 points and was an absurd +37 on the night.
The Sixers will tip off for Game 2 at MSG Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Here’s hoping Maxey gets plenty of fluids and rest before then.
