The Sixers are set to start training camp on Sept. 28 and Ben Simmons is still on the roster. After an offseason of speculation and reported unpleasantness, we still don’t have a concrete resolution.
Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick in 2016, was Rookie of the Year in 2017-18, a runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year in 2020-21, and has made three All-Star teams and received an All-NBA nod in 2019-20.
For Simmons, his playoff performances and unwillingness to shoot have clouded the positive. It seems like Simmons has regressed offensively in each of the three postseasons he’s played in, culminating in the Sixers’ Game 7 loss to the Hawks this summer.
Simmons’ poor performance — coupled with comments made after Game 7 — have led to a summer of speculation. The Sixers have reportedly explored trade opportunities. Teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, and Golden State Warriors have been rumored to have the most interest. The Sixers appear to be holding out for an All-Star player (perhaps one superstar point guard out West).
Below are the latest Simmons rumors as well as analysis from the Liberty Ballers’ staff.
