In an interesting move, the Sixers acquired young point guard Jared Butler along with four second-rounders for Reggie Jackson and a first-rounder.

The Philadelphia 76ers made their third trade of the 2025 NBA trade deadline! HoopsHype’s Mike Scotto was the first to break the news:

TRADE: The Washington Wizards are trading four second-round picks to the Philadelphia 76ers for a 2026 first-round pick, league sources told @hoopshype.

Per Adam Aaronson of the Philly Voice, the Sixers are trading a 2026 first-round pick, which will be the least favorable of the Thunder, Rockets and Clippers selections (projected to be a late first-round pick). In return, the Sixers will acquire a 2027 second-round pick (the most favorable between the Warriors and Suns), a 2028 second-round pick (via the Warriors), a 2030 second-round pick (the more favorable between the Suns and Blazers), and a 2030 pick (via Washington).

Along with moving draft capital, the Sixers will send out Reggie Jackson and acquire Jared Butler from the Washington Wizards. Butler is on a two-way contract and the Sixers will waive Pete Nance to make room for him.

Jackson was signed as an end-of-roster addition this past summer, with expectations relatively low for the 14-year veteran. However, Jackson struggled for most of his time with the Sixers, averaging just 4.4 points on 39.1% shooting from the field and 33.8% from beyond the arc.

Butler has had a pretty intriguing career thus far. Health concerns caused his draft stock to plummet in the 2021 NBA Draft, where he was eventually selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round. He didn’t break through the rotation there, however, eventually having a short stint with the Thunder and spending the past two years with the Washington Wizards.

Butler really began to put it together this season, averaging 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in 11.3 minutes per game. He shot the ball well too, at a 48.3 perecent clip from the field and 36.6 percent from three. He’s been one of Washington’s better players in a rebuilding season.

This move not only brings in a much more capable guard for the Sixers, but also provides them with several second-round picks which they can use in deals (or salary dumps), or to bring in rookies on cheap deals. We’ll see if this move is a precursor for anything in the near future.
