There are now exactly two weeks to go until the 2025 NBA draft, so send us your offseason questions while you still can!
We’re now exactly two weeks from the start of the 2025 NBA draft, which means we’re in Peak Silly SZN. The Dallas Mavericks aren’t even bothering with smokescreens—they’ve telegraphed that they’re taking Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick—and the San Antonio Spurs figure to take Dylan Harper at No. 2, although that isn’t quite as much of a lock.
Even if the top two picks are chalky, the Sixers will have plenty of options at No. 3. On Wednesday, longtime NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that “the only thing that seems certain, according to our latest conversations on the matter, is that Philadelphia will be drafting a top prospect in the very early stages of draft proceedings on June 25.”
Fischer added that V.J. Edgecombe is the “prime candidate at No. 3, at this juncture.” But if the Sixers aren’t interested in standing pat and taking Edgecombe, Ace Bailey or another prospect at that spot, they could have at least one suitor interested in trading up. Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor said Monday that he’s heard the New Orleans Pelicans “like Ace Bailey” and could try to trade up for him. (Joe Dumars clearly reads Liberty Ballers.)
However, as we wrote Monday, the player-option deadline being after the draft could complicate trade talks. The Sixers won’t have much tradable salary on draft night outside of their Big Three and Jared McCain unless Kelly Oubre Jr. and/or Andre Drummond unexpectedly pick up their options before the draft begins.
With that in mind, it’s time for our weekly offseason mailbag. So, with 14 days to go until the first round of the draft, what questions do you have about the Sixers’ direction this offseason? Drop any draft, trade or free-agency questions either in the comments section here or on Bluesky (@btoporek.bsky.social) and I’ll answer as many as I can tomorrow.
