With his NBA days piling up, the Sixers reportedly will convert rookie Justin Edwards’ two-way contract to a standard deal.
The Philadelphia 76ers are promoting Justin Edwards, one of their two-way contract players, to a standard contract. Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer was the first to report this news.
The #Sixers will sign two-way forward Justin Edwards to a standard contract for the remainder of the season with a team option for the 2025-26 season, according to league sources. Both sides are interested in exploring a longer-term deal in the offseason, the sources say. pic.twitter.com/wjHxVGxHp3

The deal is expected to follow a 1+1 framework, with the Sixers holding the option to extend it for next season. Both sides are anticipated to revisit discussions for a longer-term contract, meaning the Sixers could potentially decline the option in favor of a multi-year deal. However, if negotiations don’t progress, the team can exercise the option and turn it into a “prove-it” year for Edwards.
Edwards has been among the few bright spots for the Sixers this season. He was given a chance amid a string of injuries and has made the most of it. Edwards has earned Nick Nurse’s trust, even starting seven games. On the season, he’s averaging 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, and shooting 46.9% from the field and 37.5% from three in 23.9 minutes per game. With that, his days with the big squad were piling up, making it necessary to get his two-way contract converted sooner rather than later.
As Edwards continues to prove himself, his role within the team may evolve further, especially if he maintains his high level of play. His ability to stretch the floor with his zero hesitation shooting and provide solid defense has made him a valuable asset for a Sixers squad that has faced its share of injuries and roster changes.
The Sixers’ decision to convert Edwards’ contract is a reflection of his hard work and potential. The Philly native and Kentucky Wildcat was undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft after being touted as a five-star prospect coming out of high school. With the team’s season still ongoing and plenty of uncertainty, Edwards’ development may be crucial moving forward.
