After the teams agreed to the initial trade, it appears concerns over Caleb Martin’s hip injury forced the Sixers to amend the trade.
We’re a few days removed from the Caleb Martin deal that sent him to Dallas and Quentin Grimes and a second-rounder back to the Sixers. However, it appears there are some last-minute alterations being done. Veteran NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Sixers are sending an additional second-round pick to Dallas as an amended aspect.
Caleb Martin has been sidelined with a recent hip injury and was said to be nearing a return for the Sixers, but after consultation between both teams and the league office, Philadelphia has agreed to send an additional second-rounder to Dallas, league sources tell @TheSteinLine. https://t.co/etBvwqd9ML

As mentioned earlier, Martin has been dealing with a hip injury for the past few weeks. At one point, he was listed as questionable, but he hasn’t played since Jan. 10. It seems the Mavericks expect him to miss more time, which has led the Sixers to add an asset to the previously agreed-upon deal.
Martin is approaching 30 years old, and has been banged up for the majority of this season. This deal makes even more sense if the Sixers were worried about his health moving forward, especially while being on a four-year contract. Grimes, who they received in the deal, is nearly five years younger and has stayed healthy this year.
Stein went on to report that a specific timetable for Martin’s Mavericks debut has not been established as of yet and that Dallas does not have any long-term concerns about his hip-strain.
The Sixers recently executed a separate deal to bring four second-round picks from the Washington Wizards. After this deal, the Sixers will have eight second-round picks at their disposal.
