The Sixers clearly need to make a move to get themselves back into championship contention, but they aren’t the only team that needs to make a move. As the season progresses it becomes more and more clear which teams will be in the market for Simmons. Two teams that look as though they will definitely be in the trade market are the Boston Celtics and the Sacramento Kings.
Boston Celtics Need to Make a Move
The Celtics have been struggling all year, but recently have begun to look more and more dysfunctional. Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have not played together as well as they have in the past. There are a lot of games this year where it just feels like they take turns shooting tough shots, but never actually play off each other. It looks as though something must change if the Celtics want to be relevant again in the playoffs this year. As of right now they cannot be considered remotely close to contenders in the East with all the losses that have stacked up recently.
Sacramento Kings Need to Make a Move…for Once
The Kings have already fired their head coach and clearly seem closer to another full rebuild than to contending in the playoffs. De’Aaron Fox has not played up to his standards this year, but the other young guards in Sacramento look great. Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell have played very well this year and Haliburton in particular has shown an ability to run the offense. The Kings definitely need to make a change, otherwise they are just destined for another high lottery pick this year, that probably won’t even pan out.
Potential Trade Scenario
A Philadelphia-Sacramento-Boston Trade would make so much sense for these teams based on everything we have seen this year. Plus all the teams have assets that there have been trade rumors about this season, so this trade would only make sense. A trade scenario that works both financially and logically is;
- Philadelphia Receives: Jaylen Brown, Dennis Shroeder, Moe Harkless,
- Sacramento Receives: Ben Simmons
- Boston Receives: De’Aaron Fox, Shake Milton
There would definitely be picks involved in this trade as well, but each team receives what they are looking for and the players fit. Philadelphia need an elite scorer and depth at the point guard position, Sacramento needs a great defender and someone to distribute to all their weapons, and Boston needs an elite point guard to make the game easier for Jayson Tatum and run the offense. This trade solves all of those needs and would make each team better. This would be an ideal situation for all the teams involved and with the recent performances of all three teams, it should only be a matter of time until a move is made.
