Kyle Lowry will return to the Sixers for his 20th NBA season.

Well, hearing it from the man himself feels like a pretty credible source.

Kyle Lowry announced on his Instagram page that he will be returning to the Sixers for his 20th season in the NBA. ESPN’s Shams Charania has followed up by reporting that is a one-year deal.

Like nearly all of his teammates, Lowry’s 2024-25 season was derailed by injury. A nagging hip issue prevented him from taking the court consistently as early as November. In the 35 games he was able to suit up for, he averaged 3.9 points and 2.7 assists a game playing 18.8 minutes per night.

Despite that, Lowry’s return to Philadelphia was just as expected as the returns of Andre Drummond, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Eric Gordon. Lowry was one of the many veterans who said he’d like to come back believing he still has some contributions to give in some capacity.

Kyle Lowry says he’d like to play one more year, he believes he can help winning whether that’s on the floor or with his voice. He says that he’d like for that year to be here in Philadelphia

Players like Jared McCain and Tyrese Maxey have often said Lowry’s veteran experience and vocal leadership have been crucial in their developments. Lowry went as far as throwing a “coach Lowry” tag on his hoodie during a game he was inactive for early last season.

While many fans might have been hoping that transition to Nick Nurse’s coaching staff might become more permanent, Lowry will be back occupying a roster spot again next season.

With this signing, it brings the Sixers up to 14 players on the roster. Daryl Morey has tended to keep that 15th and final roster spot open as he heads into the season, so it’ll be interesting to see if any changes are made if and when Quentin Grimes is re-signed. There is currently one contract that is not guaranteed for the 2025-26 season and it is Ricky Council IV’s $2.2 million dollar salary.
