Earlier this week, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Ben Simmons wants to be traded. Simmons is a special talent, but Philadelphia 76ers don’t seem too bothered by this report because of how poorly he played in the postseason.
On Wednesday morning, All-Star center Joel Embiid shared his thoughts on the recent rift between Philadelphia’s fan base and Simmons.
Embiid used one of his own experiences to explain just how tough 76ers fans can be on players. However, he did mention that all the boos from the crowd motivated him to get better.
“I haven’t forgotten but 2 years ago, I got booed, people in Philly wanted me to be traded. I even shushed them,” Embiid wrote. “Only the real ones didn’t but I just put the work in that offseason to be better cuz I knew I wasn’t playing up to my potential. Philly fans, y’all also gotta be better.”

This isn’t the only message Embiid had for his fans this Wednesday. He also shot down a rumor that Philadelphia had to pick between him and Simmons.
“Sources ‘Trust me bro!!’ Stop using my name to push people’s agendas,” Embiid tweeted. “I love and hate drama. I love playing with Ben. Stats don’t lie. He’s an amazing player and we all didn’t get the job done. It’s on me personally. I hope everyone is back cuz we know we’re good enough to win.”
If the 76ers end up trading Simmons this offseason, Embiid will have to become even more of a leader in Philly. Judging by his recent tweets, he seems ready for that challenge.
