Ben Simmons rumors are swirling at speeds never seen before. Recent reports have mentioned that Simmons not only wants out of Philly but is considering sitting out of training camp. The likes of Dame Lillard and Bradley Beal are obvious targets of Sixers fans beings that they’re prolific scorers. I’m certain Sixers GM Elton Brand would pull the trigger for either of the sharpshooters himself. The question remains are either likely to come to Philly in a trade.
Portland has reached the playoffs in each of the past eight seasons in an usually competitive Western Conference. That type of consistency is unheard of for a small market in the NBA. Of course Dame Lillard has carried the franchise to the playoffs each of the past eight years. He’s scored at least 20ppg in each of those seasons. Many have speculated that his time in Portland is nearing an end given the organization fails to add the complimentary pieces around Dame to get them to the NBA Finals. Yet Dame has yet to request a trade nor has he even made a subliminal comment about seeking Philly as his next destination. Stephen A. Smith reported earlier this offseason that he knows “For a fact,” that the New York Knicks are Dames preferred destination.
Now Bradley Beal has been apart of Wizards teams that have been mediocre at best. Beal has also headlined many hypothetical proposals, many including Ben Simmons. Like Dame he’s yet to request a trade out of Washington. Coming off of a 34-38 campaign and trading away star guard Russell Westbrook the Wizards are looking towards another losing season. I’m starting to wonder if Beal would want to play in a big market like Philly where winning comes first. Maybe he’s not up for that type of pressure and he’s most comfortable in Washington.
In today’s NBA star players have more leverage than ever in deciding where they want to play, even while under contract. Given that Beal and Lillard both haven’t requested trades is telling that they don’t mind staying put. Despite the fact that Philly would be a perfect fit for either player neither has made mention of a potential move to Philly. With Simmons stating that he’s willing to miss training camp in his trade requests that also hurts the Sixers chance at getting fair value. Unfortunately, the prospect of a Beal or Lillard trade is seemingly less likely by the day.
