Since the very beginning of the Simmons trade circus this summer, the Pacers have been one of the teams that were linked to trade discussions but they were never really taken seriously, until today. The Pacers never seemed like a good option because of the fact that they are in the Eastern Conference and the packages were never that enticing. However this most recent repot that states that trade talks have resumed between the two teams, but with one major difference in the talks that changes everything…. the addition of Caris LeVert in trade packages.
Pacers Original Trade Offer
The Pacers initially attempted to offer the Sixers Malcolm Brogdon and the 13th overall pick for Simmons at the beginning of the summer. The package was quickly shot down by Daryl Morey and the Sixers front office because there was nobody the Sixers considered to be a “young, all-star caliber player”, which is what they were looking to receive in return for Ben Simmons. The Sixers made the correct move by declining that trade as it is simply not enough for Simmons, but that does not mean the Pacers are a bad trade partner, just that this was not the best offer. The Pacers were pushed to the side in the rest of the talks that proceeded for the rest of summer, until today.
New Pacers Trade Rumors
The Indiana Pacers were once again brought up in the Sixers trade rumors today, but with one major difference this time. The inclusion of Caris LeVert in trade talks which is exactly the type of player the Sixers want, but more importantly, he is the exact type of player the Sixers NEED. Malcolm Brogdon is a very solid, scoring guard who has done a lot of great things since entering the NBA, but he has never been talked about as really being an all-star or having some crazy untapped potential. However, that is definitely not the case when it comes to Caris LeVert.
LeVert is a dynamic scorer who has proven to be a problem for defenses in the league during his short career so far. LeVert has erupted for several high scoring and efficient games in his career, even doing so in the playoffs against the Sixers in 2019. He was a casualty in the trade that brought James Harden to Brooklyn, but he was never a player that the Nets really wanted to lose. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving always spoke very highly of him and his potential during their time together in Brooklyn. LeVert often carried the team when Irving and Durant were out and even erupted for 51 points on 17/26 shooting, on the road against the Boston Celtics while both of the superstars were out.
With LeVert now being an addition to these trade talks, the Pacers all of the sudden become a very desirable team for the Sixers to do business with and one that fans should be pushing for.
