The seven-time all-NBA player was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers on February 10th along with Paul Millsap in a deal for Seth Curry, Ben Simmons, Andre Drummond and multiple first round picks to the Brooklyn Nets. Due to a lingering hamstring injury, Harden was unable to play with the Sixers before the All-Star break. Abuzz with excitement, Sixers fans online have dubbed today “James Harden Day” in anticipation of the star shooting guard’s first game with his new team.

His debut will signify a new era for the Sixers- one where Joel Embiid will finally have a lead partner of his caliber. For 5 year, the star center was burdened with a faux-point guard who could not shoot threes, hit a floater, bully his way to the basket, finish creatively, improve from season to season, nor manipulate a playoff defense. This season, sophomore player Tyrese Maxey has shown promise as an elite combo guard. But James Harden, the 2017 NBA assists leader, is on another level.

Doc Rivers says the plan is for at least two of James Harden, Joel Embiid, Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey to be out on the court at all times, to ensure Philadelphia has consistent offensive threats out there at all times.

The integration of James Harden into the Sixers’ will indubitably shift the Sixers’ offensive and defensive sets. In fact, head coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers told reporters he plans to do away with all-bench lineups entirely. The acquisition of Harden is expected to propel the Sixers beyond their Eastern Conference Finals ceiling, into true championship contention. Anything less than a Finals appearance and James Harden res-signing is considered a failed season.

Have a dub-filled Harden Day (hopefully).
